Physical Education aims to empower each pupil to enjoy taking part in an active and healthy lifestyle. It develops aspirations and determination to continue with lifelong learning and self-improvement through a broad based curriculum.
Pupils in early years to Year 6 take part in Gymnastics, Athletics, Outdoor and Adventurous activities, Dance and Games. Year 2 see the introduction of swimming through to Year 6.
By the time each pupil leaves The Elms they will have the confidence and self -belief to establish relationships and aspire to become healthy individuals and succeed in physically demanding activities. We endeavour to maximise every pupil's potential whatever their level.
Swimming is taught in mixed PE Curriculum lessons from Years 2 to 6. Towards the end of the Trinity term, the Inter-House competition is held which encourages participation of all pupils and is always a closely contested and enjoyable event. We enjoy the use of our own pool, which offers a 4 lane, 25yd pool. Our swimming coaches are highly experienced and well qualified specialists who are dedicated to developing individuals and the sport within the school. The programme is lead by Mr Christopher Doman, a national level swimmer with 13 years' teaching and coaching experience.
Whilst being very proud of our swimming traditions, we are ambitious to develop the sport even further in order to provide the best provision for our swimmers and achieve the highest standards possible. The school competes in local fixtures with other independent schools and at Regional and National School Championships, most recently cementing The Elms’ status as not only one of the top 20 Independent Schools in the country in competition but also top 10 in the ASA Dolphin award, Large Schools’ swimming ability.
