Communication, Language and Literacy

This Area of Learning:

• encourages your child to develop conversation skills and interact both verbally and non-verbally
• helps to develop your child's vocabulary
• will give your child the skills they need to be able to describe, explain and expand on their ideas
• provides your child with opportunities to share their ideas
• will help your child to develop good listening and concentration skills
• wll encourage your child to ask questions
• will help your child to understand how stories work
• helps to develop recognition of letter shapes and text as well as begin reading
• helps to develop your child's pencil control
• will encourage your child to begin making marks on paper, and to eventually write their own name and simple words and phrases.
