To Parents of Nursery children
21st April 2010
Dear Parents
We would like to welcome you back after the Easter holidays, and extend a warm welcome to our new children and their families.
Nursery starts at 8.30am. If you wish to bring your child earlier they will be cared for, in the bungalow by the Nursery staff from 8.00am, until it is time to register in the main Nursery at 8.40am.
The morning session finishes at 11.50am, when children can be collected from the Nursery. The afternoon session finishes at 3.15pm. Children attending After School Care, or those being collected slightly later for any reason, will wait in the bungalow with Mrs Westley and Miss Fletcher until 4.50pm, after which time they will be taken to the After School Care facility in The Lower Obolensky.
Could we also ask to you ensure that your child’s coat and shoes are named; we have lots of fun after PE trying to match feet with shoes!
If possible a small, named water bottle should be provided for your child, to encourage them to drink regularly at school. Elms’ Water Bottles can be purchased from Mrs Broughton in the School Office. These will be available throughout the day for your child to have whenever they want and will be returned home on their last day at Nursery for the week, to be refreshed for Monday.
We are planning through topics using the Early Years Foundation Stage document, which details the stages of development for children from birth to aged 5. The curriculum is divided into six key areas: Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Communication, Language and Literacy; Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy; Knowledge and Understanding of the World; Physical Development and Creative Development. Children will be given opportunities to develop through child-initiated activities, adult-led activities and directed activities; working both inside and outside. We will be concentrating on one area each half term.
This half term our topic is called ‘All Creatures Great & Small’ and concentrates on the Early Learning Goal Area of Knowledge and Understanding of the World.
Our timetable is varied across the week and we try to ensure that there is a balance of activities and curriculum areas each day. On Tuesdays we have a dedicated music percussion lesson, where the children will learn the names of instruments, how to play them, along with simple rhythms and songs. They will also take part in a Cookery session related to the topic for the half term, and finally they will visit the Elms Upper School Library, as most of our children attend on this day. We also have a library table in the Nursery, which you are welcome to choose a book from, with your child, to take home. On Wednesdays we have a PE session in the hall, this is split into an older/younger group session, which enables more individual support. On Fridays in the afternoon we will take part in a Freeflow Golden Time with Reception, as a lovely end to the week.
If you have any questions about the curriculum, then please do not hesitate to ask us.
Yours sincerely
Mrs S Limbert Mrs A Westley Miss A Woodward Mrs K Timms Mrs Astle
