To Parents of Reception Blue and Green
21 April 2010
Dear Parents
Welcome back! Here are few details for your calendar plus an overview of our topics this term.
Our topic this half term is All Creatures Great and Small, moving onto Let’s Move in the final half term of the year. We will be looking at the lifecycles of a variety of creatures including caterpillars, ladybirds, frogs and toads. Nocturnal creatures will also be covered whilst revisiting time in our Numeracy work. Our focus will then be directed towards farm animals, their offspring and diets. This relates perfectly to our trip to Chatsworth House scheduled for Monday 24th May. Further details will follow. Additionally this half term, we will be looking at the story of St George and the dragon, making the St George’s flag and celebrating the Queen’s Birthday!
The school is taking part in Geography Awareness week on 10th May to promote the children’s knowledge and understanding of environmental issues. Our focus will be the Global Garden and during the week, we will be planting seeds and plants and will identify some of the habitats within our school grounds.
In the Let’s Move topic, we aim to highlight the importance of keeping healthy through an active lifestyle and balanced diet. We shall link this to the World Cup football fixtures where we will learn about some of the participating countries.
Finally, a polite request regarding PE kit. Please ensure the children have their full PE kit in school from next week as most sessions will now be taking place outdoors. The required PE kit for Reception is the following:
Green Elms polo t-shirt
Navy jogging bottoms
Navy Elms logo jogging top
Plain navy PE shorts
Plimsolls or trainers( trainers are preferable as they provide more protection, grip and comfort during outdoor activities)
Plain white sports socks. These are necessary to provide protection against potential blisters. A change of socks is part of the PE kit and school uniform socks should not be worn.
A plastic carrier bag is also useful for storing the children’s footwear before placing into the PE bag.
Additionally, we will be working hard to prepare and practise for Sports Day on Friday 18th June, and our Speech Day performance on Wednesday 30th June.
If you have any resources, stories or information at home to support our topic work, we would love to see them so please feel free to bring them in! As always, we thank you very much in anticipation of your help, it is so very much appreciated. We look forward to a very busy last term!
Yours sincerely
Miss E Buckley Mrs C Green
