Dear Parents

We would like to welcome you back after the Easter holidays to the Trinity term. This promises to be a fun-filled term and hopefully we will have the weather to support this. It is amazing to think that this is the final term in Year 1 and wonderful to look back at the achievements and progress that all of the children have made already. What a fabulous class they are!

Our main topic for the first half term is history based ‘The Great Fire of London’. We will be listening to the story of the Great Fire and finding out what it was like to live at that time. The Partake theatre group are coming to work with the children to re enact the story.  In Design and Technology we will be investigating healthy snacks. We will use our knowledge of foods to design and make a healthy snack for our friends – throw out the deep-fat fryers and in with the juicers!   In Science we will be learning about our bodies and changes which occur when we grow. Could you please provide us with two photographs of your child – one as a baby and another as a 2 or 3 year old. Art focuses on portraits, in particular self-portraits. The children will learn how to mix colours and work in different styles.  You also have our fantastic class assembly to look forward to on Thursday 27th of May at 9.00 am.

We also continue to have French lessons with Madame Bratton on Wednesdays, Music with Miss Pattison on Wednesdays and Gym, Dance and Games on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.  The main topic for the second half term is also history based and entitled ‘Holidays’. It focuses on how holidays have changed over time from train travel to aeroplane, knitted swimming costumes and ‘kiss-me-quick’ hats. The Design and Technology and Art topics will continue throughout this half term and the Science topic studies growing. Make room on your kitchen window sill for the obligatory yoghurt pot and seeds! We are also visiting Conkers to explore the environment and take part in activities that will stretch our scientific and mathematical skills. Something for us all to look forward to.

Could you please ensure that your child has a PE kit, blazer and water bottle in school at all times and that they bring their reading diary and book every day, their homework folders returned on a Monday, spelling folders and books on Tuesdays, library books on Wednesdays and their target balloon books on Fridays.

Many thanks for taking the time to read this letter. If you have any questions or concerns then please contact us. After school is easier as we have more time to talk!

Yours sincerely
