MUSIC
Year 3 to Year 6 : 7 - 11 years
The Elms has established a strong musical tradition and its our aim for all pupils to experience enjoyment through active participation in a wide variety of vocal and instrumental activities. Our music programme is designed to enhance the musical appreciation and awareness of all pupils.
Children receive a weekly class music lesson. The syllabus is based upon the National Curriculum and opportunities are given for singing and instrumental performance, musical appreciation, theory and composition. Recorder tuition is included within class lessons from Year 2.
Music plays an important role in the life of the school. Over 80% of pupils in Key Stage Two receive individual instrumental tuition on a wide variety of orchestral instruments from a team of visiting specialist teachers. Many of our pupils attain high levels in Guildhall School of Music and Associated Board Examinations and some have been awarded scholarships and exhibtions at Trent College.
The school has twenty five orchestral ensembles rehearsing weekly to include a Strings Orchestra, Swing Band, Junior and Senior Strings, Junior and Senior Brass, Clarinet and Flute Ensembles, Saxophone and Percussion Ensembles, Guitar and Choral groups and a Double Reed Consort. There are many opportunities for performance, including Assemblies, Christmas events, Annual Concerts and Speech Day. For further information on performance opportunities, also see Concerts and Productions.
