Physical Education
PHYSICAL EDUCATION Year 3 to Year 6 : 7 - 11 years
All pupils at The Elms follow a varied programme of Physical Education and Games throughout the year as sport is an important part of the school.
Physical Education lessons are taken by specialist teachers, utilising the outstanding facilities at the school including a floodlit all-weather area, two hard play areas, tennis courts, an indoor swimming pool, two indoor halls and numerous grass pitches for team sports.
Children are taught the skills and tactics required to participate in Hockey, Rugby, Football, Netball, Cricket, Tennis and Rounders our main team sports. They also receive two weekly Physical Education lessons in an individual sport; swimming, dance, gymnastics and athletics.
Throughout the period of time the school has been open we have created and maintained a reputation for playing sport to a high standard, whilst continuing to ensure that fun, fair play and good sporting behaviour are always observed, values which are intrinsic to our school ethos.
Students in Year 6 also have the opportunity to take part in our annual sports tour. Recently we have visited schools from Northern and the Republic of Ireland, South West of England and Wales where Hockey, Football, Rugby and Netball matches were played.
Fixtures
In addition to timetabled Physical Education and Games lessons, we endeavour to provide all children in Key Stage 2 at The Elms with the opportunity to play in a wide variety of sports fixtures.
The major sports for girls are hockey, netball and rounders; for boys, rugby, football, hockey and cricket.
We have a full fixtures list, including galas, and compete against most independent schools in the area and, by putting out a wide variety of teams, try to accomplish our aim of giving as many children as possible the privilege of representing the school.
